The Platinum drywall lift is a good tool for the money, especially with a 3 year warranty. The lift went together easily and it works very well.
The only down side of this deal was the packaging. When I received my lift, the box that it came in looked like it had been through the mill.
A few of the plastic caps were damaged in shipping, but I contacted their customer sevice dept. and I was sent replacement parts right away.
They seem to be a good company to do business with.

I bought this lift a few months back and I have hung about 40 sheets of drywall on the ceiling. It seems to be well built, easily transportable since it breaks apart without tools into three pieces, and was a great help in hanging ceilings sheets. Being that I do renovation work for my family every now and then this is the most valuable tool I've bought to date. The best part is I didn't spend $700 on a tool I only use a few times a year. For $250 and the elimination of headaches--it is well worth every penny.

No arguments with the wife or broken drywall . It was easy enough I even taught her how to use it . For the do it yourselfer this is a must have for this type of work . Hello:

"I kept an eye on all the drywall lifts that came my way. Through planning and watching Ebay and Amazon, I bought the Platinum from Discount Tommy. There are alot of lifts out there, but Platinum is by far the cheapest lifts I've researched and found. It was listed cheaper in January and was $20 more in May 2008. The shipping is high, but that is if you are not out West.

Anyway, it came brand new. I had no problem with shipping, it was not damaged. We'll do business again. As described, it works well. You need two people to load a 4'x16' and maybe the 4'x12' sheets. As the instructions say, 'DON'T LOAD MORE THAN ONE SHEET AT A TIME!' Loading may be a factor for most people. There are models out there for a whole lot more with an extra crank wheel to load the drywall from the floor to mid position to be tilted up right and then be lifted into place--more money though. Keep a cargo bar close by just in case.

The cable eventually needs replaced, but that is common repair. Cables and extention bars are available thru Discount Tommy. It's great for lifting 4'x8' sheets by yourself. This tool is worth the money and gets the job done faster and is more safe than 2x4 T's! It holds the drywall in place while you nail! Follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Thanks Discount Tommy!"

I ordered this, after trying to research as much as I could. I spent over a year dealing with terrible contractors, and finally got tired of being taken advantage of. Once received, I was excited to use. The box was terribly beat up, but there was another perfect box inside of it, and I don't think that matters in the long run. I was excited to put it together, and it was fairly easy, though some of the parts were not light (there are only three major parts). Assembly was easy, once I figured out where in the house I wanted to put the machine. After putting it together, I tried to place a sheet of drywall up on the lift. This proved to be harder than I thought. I ended up going to the local HD and purchasing a panel carry handle to help me (mind you I am a girl, doing this on my own). The drywall piece does have to be lifted about 3 feet off the ground ( I figured that I can do one corner at a time, with the help of a step stool to rest the drywall on). Once placed on the lift, everything was smooth. I have used this to lift about 6 pieces of drywall so far, and no problem (knock on wood). The only thing that I could possibly complain about is that it really does nothing for the middle pieces (I have 11 foot ceilings). I use the lift to hoist the top sheet, then I just place the bottom sheet in place without the help of the machine, and cut to fit in the middle piece, without the help again. Can't wait to try it on the second floor for the cape ceilings.

After a problem with shipping (UPS said the 1st unit was damaged and didn't even deliver it), the Platinum drywall jack arrived. The box was a bit beat up, but the inner carton was ok. All the parts were packed in bubble wrap and cardboard, and the drywall jack assembled and disassembled fairly easily by following the instructions. The steel frame was nicely welded and otherwise constructed. All the drywall jacks I looked at seemed to be about identical except for the color, so I bought on price.

Shipping about doubled the cost (it weighs ~100lbs), but even with the shipping, it was a lot less expensive than I could find a drywall jack locally without even considering sales tax.

We have been working with two people, needed in order to place the drywall sheet on the lift (not necessary if you are very strong) and working with 4x8 sheets. It swivels enought to make it easy to properly place the board, and then holds it tight in place until it can be attached. It is easier to crank than I imagined, although it does take some effort to get it up to the 10' ceiling. My husband & I, both 57, have just successfully finished a 12' x 32' room, and are ready to tackle the remainder of our basement. After an initial mixup with shipping, I finally received the product. Upon using the item, I find it very useful and worth the purchase/shipping costs. The product works as advertised and is a "life saver" when attaching drywall to the ceiling. The only criticism I would have is that the "brake" for the crank to lift the drywall hangs up and has to be constantly adjusted to allow the lift to work properly. I don't know if it was damaged in shipment, or just has a habit of hanging up on the housing, but it is not a deal killer and with a little practice is easy to compensate for. Overall, very satisfied.

Even including the rather substantial shipping cost, I judge this a good value.

My wife and I used it on one small room so far. I'm a lot older than when I built my first house but I can tell you this really beats using 2x4 T-bars and your head like I did back then!!! Even with a 4X8 sheet of 1/2" drywall, it takes quite a bit of force on the elevation wheel to raise it up so I suspect using 4X12 sheets might be more difficult. I am a customer home builder for the last 31 years. We rent a drywall lift couple times a year, but with business slow we are hanging our selves so I ordered this lift. It is not safe, my guys refuse to use it. The arms bend, the welds were broken in 2 areas when we opened the box, the mechanizm that is supposed to hold the drywall in place slips. We took it apart twice to see if we did something wrong, but it is a copy cat, looks the same but it is of very poor quality.
